“All right,” Nicole replied, smiling. It was fun to have such an eager student- or any student at all, for that matter. “I’m going to make an air bubble around your head,” she warned, not wanting Imogen to freak out when she dove underwater, only to find that her head was still dry. “Obviously it won’t let you breathe under there forever, but you should be able to stay under a lot longer,” she added.

Imogen felt something around her head, it caressed her shoulders, trapping her hair and everything. Sure, it made her vision a little blurry, but, it was a bubble! “How long will this last?” Imogen asked through the surface, not knowing if Nicole could hear her.

“No problem,” Nicole replied, relieved that her friend hadn’t started sinking as soon as she let go. Not that she wouldn’t be able to save her or anything, but still- it was nice to not have to worry quite so much about the possibility of Imogen starting to drown. “So… ready to try swimming underwater?” she asked. She was fine with it if Imogen wasn’t ready, but at the same time… she was kind of eager to show her friend around.

“Of course!” Imogen smiled ear to ear, eager to see what some people called ‘a new world’. Let’s just say dipping your head under the water in the bathtub and pretending she was here didn’t exactly compare to being here. She couldn’t wait! All the fish and shells. And what if they found something valuable? Oh how at this moment Imogen’s head was filled with crazy thoughts.

Nicole smiled, glad that Imogen still seemed eager to go exploring. “Don’t worry… As long as you’re with me, sharks aren’t a problem,” she said, grinning. Imogen still seemed to be doing fairly well, so Nicole decided to try the next step. “In a second, I’m going to let go,” she told Imogen, loosening her grip even more. “Don’t freak out though; I’ll catch you if you need me to,” she added “are you ready?”

Imogen nodded, carefully keeping herself adjusted above the water. She reassured herself that it was all okay, noting that Nicole was here. Soon, the grip on her arm was filled with the cool liquid, she barely felt a difference. Then she wondered, what does it look like from under the water? She wanted to see, but didn’t want to give her friend a heart attack. “I’m fine, thanks Nicole. I’ve always wanted to do this.”

This may be silly, but it makes me sad to think that if the SOPA bill is passed, we won’t get to see Dev and Sean’s wedding/handfastening ceremony. :(

“That depends. How far do you feel comfortable swimming?” Nicole asked, curious. She wanted to show Imogen around her home away from home, but if Imogen wasn’t ready, she certainly wasn’t going to force her. Besides, the girl was progressing in the instruction faster than Nicole had expected- even if Imogen wasn’t ready to go anywhere today, she had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before she was.

 Imogen bobbed up and down for a while, getting used to the feeling of the soft water brushing up on her, and a cool breeze. The combination of temperatures seemed like they wouldn’t mix, somehow, they did. She thought to herself “It’s not so bad, you could get used to this.” And repeated what she said out loud, followed by “I want to go as far as we can, without being eaten by sharks of course.” She laughed.
